Day 1: Prague

Fly to Prague where you will be met and transferred to the Hilton Prague (or similar) for two nights

Day 2: Prague

See Prague’s best-known treasures on a guided walking tour, including the Old Town’s astronomical clock, Hradcany Castle grounds, St Vitus Cathedral and the Charles Bridge. Mingle with locals in Wenceslaus Square or stroll alongside the Vltava River. (B)

Day 3: Prague - Passau (Embark)

Drive to Passau, where your cruise ship is docked. (B,D)

Day 4: Passau

Join your local guide for a walking tour through Passau, a maze of narrow cobblestone streets lined with beautiful patrician houses. St Stephen’s Cathedral, a masterpiece of Italian baroque architecture, houses one of the world’s largest church organs with 17,774 pipes. Stop in Engelhartszell and become acquainted with some delicious Austrian beers. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Linz

In Linz enjoy a guided tour visiting the 13th-century Hauptplatz, Austria’s largest medieval square, and the Trinity Column, built in 1723 as thanks for the city escaping the ravages of the plague, war and fire. Later wander around the old castle grounds and take in the beautiful views of the river, or visit the neo-gothic New Cathedral. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Melk - Durnstein

Join a guided tour of the magnificient 11th-century Benedictine Abbey of Melk. Dominating the town from its commanding hill site, it is one of the Europe’s largest monasteries. The abbey church houses stunning frescoed ceilings and the view from the terrace overlooking the Danube is magnificient. Head into the heart of the Wachau valley wine region. On a guided walking tour, explore Durnstein, known for its magnificient Baroque Stiftskirche and the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Vienna

Vienna inspired the creative genius of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss and was once the centre of the mighty Habsburg Empire. See the lavish Hofburg Imperial Palace complex, with its Vienna Boys’ Choir and Lipizzaner stallions, the impressive neo-Renaissance Vienna Opera House, and awe-inspiring St Stephen’s Cathedral on your included city tour. Day 8: Bratislava

At the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains is Bratislava, the dynamic capital of Slovakia. Sightseeing with a local guide will introduce you to the charming Old Town and its Town Hall, one of the oldest stone buildings in the city. Also visit the Gothic St Martin’s Cathedral, coronation church for the Kingdom of Hungary from the 16th to 19th centuries. (B,L,D)

Day 9: Budapest

Budapest is one of Eastern Europe’s liveliest cities. Today’s guided city tour takes in the massive hilltop castle complex, Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. Later explore at your own pace, perhaps strolling across the famed Chain Bridge, a symbol of Budapest built in 1849 that connects ancient Buda on the right bank with Pest on the left. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Budapest (Disembark)

Disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK. (B)
