Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Bucharest

Fly to Bucharest where you will be met and transferred to the Athenée Palace Hilton hotel (or similar) for one night

Day 2: Bucharest - Fetesti (embark) - Guided sightseeing

On your included tour of Bucharest this morning, see the main sights including Royal Palace Square, the scene of riots in 1989, that led to the collapse of the communist dictatorship. Later, drive to Oltenita, where your ship is docked. (B,D)

Day 3: St Gheorghe - Excursion to Danube Delta; Km 0 celebration

Dock in St Gheorghe. Take an excursion into the Danube Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best preserved of Europe’s deltas. This area hosts over 300 species of birds as well as 45 species of freshwater fish. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Cernavoda - Excursion to Constanta; visit the National History & Archaeological Museum

From Cernavoda an excursion takes you to Constanta on the Black Sea Coast, the most important commercial centre in Romania. A visit to the Natural History and Archaeological Museum is included. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Rousse - Visit Veliko Târnovo, Arbanassi; or Rousse

Dock this morning in Rousse, Bulgaria’s largest inland port. Today’s excursion visits the ancient Bulgarian capital of Veliko Târnovo before contining to the historic village of Arbanassi to visit the Church of the Nativity. Alternatively, join a guided sightseeing tour of Rousse. (B,L,D)

Day 6: VIidin. Excursion to Belogradchik

A leisurely morning of sailing before arriving in Vidin, whose medieval fortress is the town’s primary landmark. In nearby Belogradchik, view the rock formations on the western slopes of the Balkan Mountains. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Iron Gates Gorge - Excursion to Lepenski Vir

Cruise through the Iron Gates Gorge; visit Lepenski Vir archaeological exhibition Sail through the dramatic Iron Gates Gorge, a narrow and formerly very dangerous passage dividing Europe’s Alps from the Carpathians. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Belgrade - Guided sightseeing, visit Kalemegdan Fortress

Arrive in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia situated at the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers. A local guide will show you its main sights, including St. Sava, the world’s largest orthodox church. Also visit the city’s principal landmark, Kalemegdan Fortress. This evening, set sail for Vukovar in Croatia. (B,L,D)

Day 9: Mohács - Excursion to Pécs with local guide

Arrive in Mohács, the fi rst stop in Hungary. An included excursion takes you to Pécs. Established by the Romans in the 2nd century, this was a fl ourishing and important town for Christianity by the 4th century. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Budapest - Guided sightseeing

Hungary’s capital is one of Eastern Europe’s liveliest cities. On an included tour with your local guide, see Heroes Square as well as the massive hilltop castle complex with its remarkable Fishermen’s Bastion. (B,L,D)

Day 11: Budapest - Vienna

A day for relaxing on board and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Danube. This evening, arrive in Vienna, where an optional concert is available during your stay. (B,L,D)

Day 12: Vienna

Vienna is home to the lavish Hofburg Imperial Palace complex with its Vienna Boys’ Choir and dazzling Lipizzaner stallions; the neo-renaissance Vienna Opera House; and awe-inspiring St Stephen’s Cathedral, plus other sights you will see during an included city sightseeing tour. (B,L,D)

Day 13: Dürnstein - Guided walk in Dürnstein, Benedictine Abbey and wine tasting

Dürnstein is right in the heart of the Wachau wine region and was where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. Sail the picturesque Wachau Valley and arrive in Melk in the early afternoon. Here, enjoy a guided visit of the magnificent 11th century Benedictine Abbey. (B,L,D)

Day 14: Passau - Optional excursion to Salzburg or Cesky Krumlov

Choose from a full-day optional excursion to either Salzburg, taking in some of The Sound of Music sights, or medieval Ceský Krumlov in the Czech Republic, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alternatively stay on board and cruise to Passau. (B,L,D)

Day 15: Regensburg guided walk; beer tasting

Explore Regensburg on a guided walk. The city dates back to the time of the Celts around 500 BC and is one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities. Architectural highlights include the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), built in the 13th century, and Porta Pretoria, gates to an ancient Roman fort built in 179 AD. (B,L,D)

Day 16: Roth - Nuremberg - Choice of Roth or Nuremberg sightseeing

Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of nearby Nuremberg, once the unoffi cial capital of the Holy Roman Empire, and its medieval fortifi cations, extraordinary gothic churches and Kaiserburg (Imperial Castle). Alternatively join a guided tour of Roth, a beautiful Bavarian town with half-timbered houses. (B,L,D)

Day 17: Nuremberg (disembark) - Prague 

Disembark and drive to Prague, the ‘Golden City’. (B)

Day 18: Prague - Guided sightseeing

A local guide will introduce you to the best of Prague, including the Old Town’s Astronomical Clock, Hradcany Castle grounds, St Vitus Cathedral and the Charles Bridge. (B)

Day 19: Prague

A free day to explore the city at your own pace. (B)

Day 20: Prague

Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK. (B)
